Bag Magic Workers // Mirrco Shoe and Handbag Repair Service

{ UPDATE } I’ve gotten news from our blog readers and friends that they no longer do bags or zippers, and only service luggage and suitcases. A pity, really! My Head Porter bag is still working 3 years after they repaired it.

Do you have one bag that you absolutely love, and feel disheartened when the zipper spoils or the lining becomes tattered and torn? My favorite Head Porter bag has been lying in a corner of my closet for the longest time. It’s a bag that I would love to bring on trips because it’s light, has many compartments and roomy enough for essentials while on the road. One fine day, the zipper no longer worked. I had no choice but to relegate it to oblivion.

I’m going on a trip soon and I thought about this bag again. In a desperate attempt to have the zipper replaced or repaired, I visited 6 shops – a variety of shoe repairs, seamstress, and alteration shops. They all said they can’t repair this, or the zipper of this bag cannot be replaced, or they do not have a heavy duty machine. I thought there wasn’t going to be any chance for a revival.

Finally, I chanced upon Mirrco Shoe and Handbag Repair Service at Bylands Building in Middle Road.

At a fee of only S$20, these honest, hardworking souls got my bag zipper repaired. I don’t know how they did it. But my Head Porter bag is ready and all packed for my upcoming trip this weekend.

What inspires me about these folks? When you enter this humble shop, they are quietly working away. No fussing about, no hassles. Just earnestly diagnosing, hammering and repairing away. Luggages, briefcases, handbags and bags lined the shelves, neatly. One can’t help but feel that these folks have so much respect for bags, and an acute understanding of the owner’s desperate need to have a bag repaired. And they don’t care what brand the bag is. What they see (and charge for) is the problem and how to get it fixed. pling thinks….these folks are bag magic workers!

Just visited them. Poor service, and the owner looks so grumpy. Told me he doesn’t repair zipper anymore. I guess such items doesn’t make a lot of money for him so he rather do the bigger ticket items.

A pity. I heard from a friend who also visited them recently that they do only luggage & suitcases now. I’ll update the post. Thanks for letting me know.
